YOUR NEW HOME

Room Furnishings
Keys and Key Cards
Cable TV
Internet
Parking
Bicycles
Rooms are furnished with single beds (80' x 34' Twin Long), dressers, desks, chairs, wastebaskets, and basic cable cords. Before you purchase large items or decorative accesories, you might want to wait to coordinate with your roommate.
Parkside & Hillside College residents use their campus photo I.D. to access their halls and room. Hard room keys will be issued for Beachside College residents. If your campus photo I.D. is lost or becomes damaged, replacement cards can be issued at I.D. Card Services located in the CSULB bookstore. Once replaced, go to your Hall Offices to have the new I.D. card encoded for building access.
One cable TV connection is provided in each room, and a coaxial cord is needed. You can find a channel line-up within the Residential Life Portal.
Internet is provided to each resident at no additional charge. All University Housing Buildings now have WiFi access using the University Beachnet+ network. However, International House bedrooms do not have WiFi access and residents living there will need their own ethernet cable, minimum 10 feet in length for wired access in their rooms. (Beachnet+ access is available in the International House lobby.
For further details and instructions reference the Media Guide provided in your room.
Residents who bring bicycles on campus are advised to park them in the bicycle racks near the residence halls and to utilize U-lock bike locks. It is strongly advised that bikes are registered with University Ploice. We do not recommend cable bike locks or that you bring an expensive bicycle to campus. Bicycles are not permitted in any suite, living room, or any common areas. With the exception of the International House, bicycles may be kept in student rooms if both roommates agree.
A valid parking permit is required to park on campus at all times. Residents with a vehicle must obtain both a Student Parking Permit ($123, good for one semester) and a Residence Hall Permit (no fee, valid for the academic year). You must have both permits displayed to park overnight. Beachside parking spaces will be on a first come, first served basis. If you have not already purchased a Student Parking Permit, you can do so at Parking and Transportation Services website. Keep the permit receipt and clearly display the permit in your vehicle.

University Housing Facilities Maintenace Staff performs preventative and routine maintenance, the repairing of public areas of buildings and repairs within individual resident rooms. Damages or non working items in your room can be resolved and corrected by a maintenance request available at the Residential Life Portal website.
Laundry
Each hall has laundry rooms equipped with laundry card access high effiency washing machines and dryers. You can buy a laundry card from card via debit or credit card from dispensers located in the laundry rooms (Hillside College they are located near the Customer Service Centers). The card dispensers only take debit or credit card. Students must bring their own irons.
Maintenance
Computer & TV Technicians
University Housing has a staff of resident technicians who are available to help with computer network connection and tv issues. They are not allowed to fix your printer, or computer hardware issues, but they can recommend where to take it to have it repaired. You can fill out a "network troubleshooting request" online at the Residential Life Portal or in your hall office.
Faculty in Residence (FIR)
Faculty in Residence are full time faculty members living in the Residential Colleges. In addition to providing academic advisement and tutoring, the FIR are available to initiate, sponsor and support a whole range of formal and informal educational programs for all residents. Get to know the Faculty in Residence on the Residential Life Portal.

Coffee Houses
There are two coffee houses located in University Housing; Central Park of Parkside and The Ground Floor on the first floor of Los Alamitos. Both coffee houses provide residents with authentic Starbucks coffee delicacies, and offer them a quick drink, a bite to eat, or just hang out.

Housekeeping
Residents are responsible for the cleanliness of their individual spaces (residence hall rooms, suite bedrooms). All interior and exterior public areas (restrooms in suites and residence halls, hallways, lobbies, etc.) are maintained by a custodial staff. Beachside residents must supply their own toilet paper.
Dining Hall & Food Services
Residents will have access to three residential dining halls at the three respective colleges. Your campus ID card allows you to have access to the dining halls. The first meals to be served will be brunch at Parkside & Beachside Dining Halls on Sunday August 23, 2015. The dining hall service hours will be provided in the handbook at move-in.

You will most likely be bringing some expensive items to school this Fall. It is important that you understand that if your laptop or other valuables are stolen or damaged, YOU are responsible for replacing them, not the University. That is why CSULB strongly recommends GradGuardâ„¢ Renters Insurance. With the GradGuard Renters Insurance plan, any personal property that is stolen or damaged by a covered peril can be replaced at full cost, subject to a $100 deductible. GradGuard Renters Insurance also protects students financially for unintentional damage to university property, or bodily injury to others for which the student is legally liable, within the residence premises.
For additional information, including coverage details and exclusions, please visit GradGuard Renters Insurance or call GradGuard at 866-985-7598.

We have partnered with Collegiate Concepts, Inc (CCI) to exclusively provide residents with the MicroFridge and the SafeConcepts electronic safe for use in the halls. For more information on the products, please visit http://www.collegefridge.com/95/

Do I have to move out at semester break and Spring Break?

Move-in for 2015 - 2016 academic year will occur on Saturday, August 22.
You'll see your own room the day you move in. To see a typical room and suite arrangement we invite you to take residence hall tours during the summer months. It takes approximately 30 min, no reservations required.
You'll meet your roommate during move-in weekend. However, you can communicate through the CSULB Housing Web Portal one week after the roommate selection process is completed.
Fall semester dining service begins with a brunch on
Sunday, August 23.
Your license does not cover either of those periods, but you can leave your belongings in your room during these times. However, we suggest you take your valuables home with you. If you plan to stay during either of these periods, you will be required to sign an additional license and pay a nominal fee. You will not be allowed access to your room during breaks unless you have paid. No meals are served during these periods, and no guests or visitors are allowed.
Certainly. Invited guests may visit in your room at times mutually acceptable to you and your roommate. Guests may stay overnight in student rooms with residents of the same sex if the host resident’s roommate gives permission (written permission is highly recommended). All overnight guests must be registered at the Hall Office. Overnight guests may stay no longer than two (2) nights a month.
Sorry, we simply don’t have storage spaces available.
No. Meal plans are not refundable and not transferable. We know that every resident probably won’t attend every meal offered under any options and we have adjusted costs accordingly.
You can pay online with a debit card or E-check through your MyCSULB account or mail in a check to the housing office. You can also check your specific amount on your MyCSULB account. Payments are due the first business day of every month.
There is a $20 one-time late fee. However, if you need an extension on a payment, you may come into the housing office before the payment date and fill out an extension form. If approved, you will have up to 15 days after the due date to pay the amount. Failure to pay your amount due by your due date (either first business day or extended date) will result in the fee being applied.
